Description Celebrate Recovery (CR) exists to help people find freedom and healing from their hurts, hang-ups and habits through a relationship with Jesus Christ.
Core Overview
- Focus: Celebrate Recovery is a Christ-centered recovery ministry providing a safe and welcoming place for people seeking healing and freedom from chemical addictions, codependency, grief and loss, anxiety, anger, relationship struggles, trauma, and other hurts, habits, and hang-ups. Recovery is not limited to addiction; everyone is welcome to take steps toward healing and greater freedom in Christ.
- Approach: Celebrate Recovery combines the familiar framework of the 12 Steps with eight recovery principles based on the Beatitudes from Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount. Unlike recovery programs that refer generally to a “higher power,” Celebrate Recovery identifies Jesus Christ as the one and only Higher Power and looks to Him as the source of lasting hope, healing, and transformation.
Meeting Structure
- Large Group: Each weekly gathering begins together in Large Group and includes worship, prayer, the Celebrate Recovery principles and steps, and either a recovery lesson or a personal testimony. Testimonies allow participants to hear how God has worked in the lives of ordinary people through recovery, while lessons provide practical, biblical guidance for taking the next step in their own journey.
- Open Share Small Groups: Following Large Group, participants gather in gender- and issue-specific Open Share groups. These groups provide a confidential and respectful environment where participants can honestly share their experiences, victories, struggles, and current challenges without judgment, fixing, or unsolicited advice. The goal is to provide a safe place where people can be heard, supported, encouraged, and reminded that they do not have to walk through recovery alone.
